  • Jersey Trees for Life

    Skipton Community Fund have supported Jersey Trees for Life with their project to protect squirrels from the dangers of traffic, through the erection of rope bridges and hedgerow corridors around the Island. Jersey Trees for Life took over the project from the Environmental Department at the end of last year, but despite huge support from the public had struggled to find funding to commence work on the rope bridges. Thanks to the contribution from the Community Fund, the project is now well underway providing safe passage to squirrels through the trees, as well as erecting poles to support the bridges where necessary.

  • Dementia Friendly

    The Fund has donated £1,500 to allow the charity to host an afternoon tea party at the Duke of Richmond Hotel in May. The event welcomed those living with dementia and their carers free of charge for afternoon tea, scones, music and dancing. Volunteers for the charity also discussed community and cognitive activities such as memory boxes and singing that could benefit those living with the condition.

  • Citizens Advice Bureau

    The first donation from the newly formed Skipton Community Fund has been made to the Citizens Advice Bureau, helping them to raise financial awareness in the local community. Skipton International have granted a sum of £1,000 to each of the charitable organisations in Jersey and Guernsey, supporting the good work they do and in particular the money workers who help those in financial distress or with mounting debt.

  • Youth Enquiry Service

    The Youth Enquiry Service (YES Project) provides free confidential information, advice and support to those aged between 14-25 covering issues such as homelessness, education, money, employment and emotional health and wellbeing. The grant of £1,000 from the Fund has gone towards promotional literature and assisting the organisation with administration expenses as it moves to its new home at The Link in Eagle House

  • Bowel Cancer Guernsey

    Bowel Cancer Guernsey applied to the fund to raise awareness of Bowel Cancer in Guernsey and raise money to buy specialist diagnostic equipment. . In conjunction with Loud Tie Day, Bowel Cancer Guernsey used the £1,500 donation to host the Skipton Smith Street Dash – a three-legged race up Smith Street bound by a loud tie.

  • The Ivy Trust

    The Skipton Community Fund are proud to have sponsored The Ivy Trust who have announced their partnership with The National Trust of Guernsey, to provide a unique way of honouring babies and pregnancies gone too soon with the first memorial planting project.  The planting will be a combination of native trees and shrubs. The donation with enable The Ivy Trust to gift one planting to any family who would like to remember a little one.

  • Guernsey parkrun

    Skipton Community Fund are pleased to have sponsored Guernsey parkrun, a free weekly run/walk run entirely by volunteers.  The donation was used to purchase a wireless PA system and 5 “milestone capes” participants wear on the week they celebrate a milestone run.

  • Autism Guernsey

    The Skipton Community Fund are proud to have sponsored Autism Guernsey’s annual Fashion Show and Auction event, which raised in excess of £4,400 for the charity, with the ongoing sale of clothing donations set to take this figure even higher.  With no statutory funding, Autism Guernsey relies on such fundraising events and donations to continue its great work on the island.  Photo taken by Alan Bull & Martyn Elliston of Digital Photo Post.

     
  • Sophie’s Smile Ponies

    The donation of £1,500 enabled Sophie Veron to launch her therapy pony venture, Sophie’s Smile Ponies. You can now find Sophie’s miniature Shetland ponies visiting communities and schools across the island as she aims to perform sensory work and provide equine facilitated learning.  Sophie has owned Shetland ponies since the age of 18 and turned her love for animals into a career as a veterinary nurse at Isabelle Vets.

  • Jersey Employment Trust

    Jersey Employment Trust (JET) recently applied to the Fund seeking financial support to produce vital literature which would allow them to spread the message about their social enterprise, Acorn. With the support of the Fund a series of brochures will now be available setting out the benefits of working at Acorn for those with disabilities or long-term health conditions.
