Whilst I was very satisfied with the application and approval process once we got to trying to close the sale and get approval to release funds it was an absolute disaster. Skipton's solicitors were slow and totally unresponsive and flexible. Each time it seemed everything was in place and all questions were answered they would simply bring up new questions and didn't seem to care about deadlines and extensions or the money it was costing us in late fees and extensions. Even when all questions were resolved we then lost more time as everything had taken so long the original searches were now out of date and they insisted that they all be redone. What was more frustrating is that Skipton seemed unable to push them to perform or respond. The solicitors were quite happy to hide behind the fact they were responding within their standards of service, irrespective of what it meant to Skipton or us. Things got so bad that we had to put alternative finance in place at significant additional cost to cover the fact that they might not ultimately come through. Thank goodness we could do that and that we had a patient seller or we would have lost our deposit.

I am disappointed to hear of the delays to your mortgage completion and have had your concerns investigated.
I can confirm Skipton's solicitors were put on notice in March and at that time sent your solicitors a full list of documentation required to effect draw down; they requested this information be provide in one go and in a timely manner for review. Both solicitors have worked together on several previous Skipton cases, so should have been fully aware of requirements and the process.
A full time line of all correspondence between our solicitors and your representatives has been provided. It is evident that documentation was provided on a piecemeal basis causing delays. Conveyancing Direct proactively requested outstanding information and when received it was reviewed in a timely manner. It does not appear that Conveyancing Direct were the cause of the unfortunate delays.
If information had been provided to Conveyancing Direct in a timely and complete manner these regretable delays would not have occurred.

Skipton have been very helpful in allowing me to change the property I was purchasing after I saw a problem with the first one.
They took a long time to check all my details but I am an expat purchasing so I suppose they have to be extra careful.
I have been very pleased with Skipton and I hope to have a good relationship with them.
