Approval process was reasonably fast. But for the actual exchange, Skipton needs to appoint their own lawyers and they have been the speed limiting factor. There were instances that their lawyers took one week to respond.

What I really miss is that the bank does not advice you if better rates are available and it would be in the interest of the customer to move the funds to a different account. In addition I do not find the bank statements very clear.

I was a little confused when the paperwork came through but a quick chat in the office answered all my questions. The service seems to be very professional and I'd have no problem in recommending them to friends or family.

I would prefer a better interest rate obviously but in the current climate it's probably not feasible.

It is very regrettable that Skipton no longer offers fixed rate bonds. Customers were given no notice of this change. Without this offering customers will move to competitors who can provide their requirements. There will be consequential loss of business to Skipton reducing the profitability and sustainable stability of a relatively small market player.
Product Review:
The previously offered fixed rate bonds had acceptable interest rates and terms.

They were friendly, communicative and responded timely to my questions. My only gripe was that the initial contact for the product wasn't 100% sure of the rules on paying down the mortgage, which resulted in me expecting to pay down a % as soon as the mortgage was drawn down, but in fact I have to wait three months.

As one of the only existing ex-pat mortgage providers, Skipton provide a good product for buy-to-let purchases. Some staff were helpful via email, but I found the whole process quite confusing. It would have been useful to receive a list of documents required and a timeline in advance, as well as having 1 main person to liaise with, rather than several different people who apparently each deal with a different stage of the application. No regrets so far though...
