Their process was very slow & the seller was on the verge of pulling out of the sale. Also, we agreed which documents we’d require before gaining the preapproval, then more documents were requested. They also use additional solicitors which adds to the cost. I was planning to go ahead with another mortgage with them, however, I feel unable to do so mainly because of the time taken. I found another mortgage I took out with NatWest to be much more efficient.
Product Review:
A lower minimum loan amount would attract more investors to this product.

Thank you for your feedback. On receipt of your application there were a number of documents missing. Your broker was advised of this on the day the application was received, however, it was 3 weeks before all the paperwork was provided enabling the application to progress to valuation.
We include a full list of documentation requirements with the application form for clarity and to prevent such delays. I am sorry that you considered our service lacking on this occasion, however, your experience would have been much improved if the broker had adequately completed the application.
I am sorry you do not feel you would apply for another mortgage with Skipton, if you were to contact us direct I am sure your experience would be excellent.

Amazingly responsive and quick turnaround. Easy to deal with especially when you are trying to remortgage your home from thousands of miles away. Their conveyancing team was also very helpful.

One of the very few products that offers an expat mortgage. Reasonable rate with low processing fee. Rated 4 stars only because the rate could be better.

We used Skipton under guidence from a Mortgage advisor. The initial contact and approvement was very quick and Glenn was helpful. After passing to the Post off Team I found myself having to gauge contact as opposed to being provided inforamtion.

It is difficult to rate Skipton on our recent experience, as they have both been fantastic and a cause of great stress.
Skipton pulled out of a recent mortgage application late in the development, leaving us with no mortgage provider. This was due to an insufficient 'Fire Safety Report'. We were then left to find another provider after being served notice from the developer.
Skipton then honored the mortgage after the report had been re-issued, forcing us to go through a further application, however this was processed quickly and we managed to draw down 24hrs past our final deadline, where the developer allowed the contract to stand.
In summary, Skipton both saved our purchase, but also cost us a lot of money in late completion fees.
It would have been better, if Skipton had agreed to the mortgage the first time around, based on the understanding the 'Fire Safety' report should be resubmitted and accepted. This would have saved us months of stress and thousands of pounds!

Unfortunately the property being acquired featured external cladding. Post Grenfell Tower surveyors understandably require sight of the fire safety certification before they would provide a property valuation. As this was not initially available the original application was unable to proceed.
The required documentation was subsequently provided by the developers enabling a survey to be completed and mortgage to be granted.
I am sorry for the inconvenience, however, circumstances were outside of Skipton's control. As soon as the required documentation was received the application was fast tracked to ensure completion at the earliest possible opportunity.

I received information about the new bond via email from Natalie. This was most impressive as of all the banks with which I do business, Skipton is the only one to grasp that mailing anything to Mexico is hit and miss at best and can take anything up to four months if it arrives at all! I have requested that they all use email, but so far, Skipton is the only one to be so customer aware!
I telephoned and spoke to Kim who walked me through the details of the new bond and was extremely helpful in providing all the information I needed and then setting up the new bond.
Excellent service. Best I've come across.
