Customer Service Review:
Reasonably straight forward and very quick to complete, although the conveyancing firm used asked for a lot of the same information that we had already provided by way of the application form. If they really needed all this information they could have pre-filled their own form and then sent it to us for confirmation. The thing that caused a delay was that although this was a buy to let mortgage and indeed a copy of a lease was a pre-requisite, the starting point in the mortgage offer was that leases of any kind were prohibited. When we queried this we were simply sent a link to your standard terms and conditions for leases. It turned out that buried in this document was a provision that said consent would automatically be given if certain conditions were fulfilled. No-one pointed us to the relevant provision. This is inconsistent with a plain English approach and the lack of a helpful response (eg "please see paragraph [*] of the attached ts and cs" caused a delay and some concern on our part as to whether the product was fit for purpose. I would add that it isn't actually easy to find that document on your website - when I searched for it, the site directed me to a different document all together. However, once resolved, the process completed quickly and efficiently

I have received very helpful service every time I have called your bank. Regarding the products themselves, I know that interest rates are currently very low, but I am pleased to be able to receive a little more from your bank than from other offshore accounts I have viewed on the internet. Your rates are not quite as good as those I was receiving from Nationwide International, but as you probably know, they are closing all their international accounts, which is why I have transferred my funds to Skipton. I wish it was possible to view my account on line and be able to carry out online transactions, but I understand you are working on this. Regarding security, I am a little surprised that I am asked for my password in full every time I call. Most other banks I deal with on line only ask for certain random characters and will never ask for the full password.

Slightly higher interest rates than other international accounts I looked at, but as yet it is not possible to operate your account online.

Our range of products does vary over time so that Skipton maintains a reasonably competitive position in the market. With a password you are able to open and make transfers to other Skipton International products over the phone should our new selection be of interest.

Your rep on the phone was friendly, spoke clearly and obviously knew what she was talking about. She wanted our business and she did her best to help us to put our money with you in the nicest possible way which made dealing with Skipton very pleasant business. The banking side was found to be a little confusing but I suppose that can't be helped. (At 94 it does not take very much to confuse me ! )
